Cantt Park to get a Lumbini look
HYDERABAD: One of the oldest parks in Secunderabad will get a makeover soon.
The Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) has decided to give a facelift to the decade-old Cantonment Park and develop it on the lines of NTR Gardens and Lumbini Park. Architect Raj Expedith, who had designed these parks, has been hired for the job.
The design has already been approved and work has begun in the six-acre expanse.

The thick dry vegetation has been removed and earth-filling operations are in process as this is a low-lying area.
The park will have contours of various levels and levelled terraces giving it an aesthetic look, a fountain, play area for children, food courts and turfed space specially developed for yoga sessions. The present entrance of the park will be shifted too.
"The original entrance to the park on the western side which is opposite Sweekar Rehabilitation Centre has heavy traffic and is dangerous. It is being shifted in the new plan and made east-facing, closer to the bus terminus" SCB executive officer T Arockianathan told TOI.
Among other plans, some space has been earmarked as parking area to accommodate around 100 cars and the entire park will have solar fencing. A walking track is also proposed.

It also has a band stand and a library built during the British era, which will be refurbished to its original style.
"There will be no barricade by hedges and one space will flow into another. The idea is to be able to view the entire expanse of the park from any point," said Expedith.
"It will be completed in a phased manner in a year's time. About Rs 50 lakhs has been earmarked for the first phase of two acres and will be completed in three months," said Arockianathan. "Depending upon the response, we will develop the rest," he added.
